In early December, WSC hosted Winterfest, a celebration of our school community through the performing arts. This event was inspired by a small group of WSC alumni led by Troy Wilson, WSC Class of 2010, whose initiative and dedication resulted in a truly inspirational evening. WSC students, both past and present, joined together with WSC staff and parents, as well as talented young people from New York City high schools to create this memorable event.
The concert featured a string quartet and performances of original songs, dances and poetry. The WSC Band, led by parent volunteer Ruben Gonzalez, rocked the house with their renditions of Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Rapper's Delight. Parents came on stage to sing Spanish lullabies. Teachers joined students for a percussion jam session and surprised the audience with a duet of The Christmas Song.
A standing ovation to all of the student, parent and teacher performers! Special thanks to Troy Wilson for inspiring us with his vision and leadership, and to parent coordinator Tracy McClaire for running with this vision and ensuring that the event was a success.
