A Standing Ovation for the WSC Student Opera

On January 28, Ms. Bailey's seventh grade arts students performed their own version of "On the Town", a romantic comedy originally written by Leonard Bernstein.  Students composed songs, wrote the libretto and staged the production under the guidance of Ms. Bailey in collaboration with visiting artist Keith Witty and professional opera singer Heather Johnson. The musical numbers and comical dramatic scenes captured the attention of all in the audience.

For over 13 years now, WSC has collaborated with New York City Opera to educate students about elements of opera, including basic performing arts skills, musical composition and libretto writing. To prepare for their performance of "On the Town" WSC students studied Bernstein's works and went to see "lucky to be me" - a tribute to Bernstein performed by the New York City Opera.

Special thanks to the parents and families who supported their students by attending the performance.
