As part of WSC's expanding partnership with the NYC DOE Innovation Zone, West Side Collaborative is excited to launch academic coaching.  We have been working with a design partner and looking at a successful model for personalizing education currently used in England, Sweden and a new NYC Charter School.  The aim of this exciting new initiative to support students as they assume a leadership role in their own education.

Students will participate in “Base Camp”,  a course designed to share strategies to be successful in middle school and to help students set academic goals, as well as monthly “office hours” to provide students with an individual check-in time with their academic coach.
In Base Camp students will learn how to deal with stress, set school and personal goals and plan for student-led conferences. As a group, students will learn strategies for success, support each other in solving problems and have a dedicated space for discussing academic concerns. The goal of this initiative is to support students in understanding that the person who has the power to get them to their desired destination in life is . . . the students themselves.
