The week of May 10th to 14th, WESTSIDE COLLABORATIVE "disappeared" and was replaced by the Urban Explorers Science Institute!

Regular classes were replaced by a week long immersion in one of three exciting science subjects-- selected by our students:   Animal Behavior, Hudson River Water Quality, and Rocket Design. The week was jam-packed with special activities: trips, films, and lots of "hands-on" learning!

As ANIMAL BEHAVIORISTS, students used ethograms and other methods of data collection to create and test hypotheses about animals behavior.

ECO-TECHNOLOGY EXPERTS tested the water quality of the Hudson River for various contaminants. Students explored the causes and effects of various pollutants on the Hudson River eco-systems.

ROCKET SCIENTISTS experimented with different rocket designs, each inventor determined to build the one that would fly highest.

The week culminated in a Science Showcase where student scientists and their parents presented their findings and shared their discoveries.
